Feasibility Study for the Discover Filey Project
Client: Groundwork North Yorkshire and Partners
Location: North Yorkshire
Value: £8,000
Date: 2010-11
with Tourism UK
The Brief:
- Filey Country Park is the main arrival point for the majority of visitors to the resort town of Filey and a valued green-space resource for local people. It offers access to the popular beach and prominent coastal landmarks. The area has a range of cultural and natural heritage values including archaeological and historical connections with an ancient settlement located at this spot.
- PLB worked with Groundwork North Yorkshire and partners on a Feasibility Study to support the partnership’s aspirations to develop the park as part of a wider ‘Discover Filey’ project. The Feasibility Study contained recommendations for the partnership to take account of in exploring future funding applications to LEADER, the HLF and others.
Our Solutions:
- PLB worked with a local architect to investigate the potential for a redundant building in the park to become the focal point for a new Community Trust as part of a staged project to develop Filey as a visitor attraction and educational resource. This included a range of consultations, market and comparator research.
- Working with Tourism UK, we also investigated the potential for an Assets Transfer of parts of the park to a new Community Trust, the impact of the park’s possible development as a Local Nature Reserve and council aspirations for the site's existing campsite and caravan park.
