Winterbourne House and Botanical Gardens, Exhibition Design and Build
Client: University of Birmingham
Location: Birmingham
Value: £300,000
Date: 2008
The Brief:
Working with the client team at the University of Birmingham to realise their aspirations to bring Winterbourne House and Botanical Gardens together again for the benefit of a new generation of visitors.
Our Solutions:
- PLB revitalised the ground floor of the house with painstakingly researched recreations of Arts & Crafts rooms, incorporating a new interpretive exhibition and an education space.
- Family-friendly elements include an interactive toy train making key stops on the Birmingham map, linked to the interpretive stories. An AV presentation brings to life John Nettlefold, the Edwardian businessman and philanthropist who once owned the house.
The Result:
- The interpretation enhances interior and exterior historic features and has been designed to function, alongside the the gardens, as a place for personal discovery and reflection.
