The World War 2 Memories Project - Interpretation, Graphic Design and Artwork

For The National Trust

The Brief:

  • Three historic Yorkshire estates - Beningborough Hall, Nostell Priory and East Riddesden Hall had each played a key role in supporting the Second World War effort
  • To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the war, National Trust volunteers collected reflections, photographs and oral history records of stories from ordinary who had lived in and around the estates during the war
  • With funding from the the Big Lottery, The National Trust in Yorkshire commissioned PLB to interpret the information and develop innovative ways of helping the Trust to display and promote these fascinating archives to the public

Our Solutions:

  • PLB produces materials appropriate to a wide ranging audience visiting the Yorkshire properties
  • Attractive and approachable interpretation - the lives of the vitally important but largely undocumented network supporting the war effort
  • The commemorative booklet contained moving graphics and photographs, many from hitherto unpublished, private sources
  • In conjunction with the booklet, PLB is also currently designing an interactive education pack to be distributed on CD containing audio memories and photographs which will link to online WW2 resources including BBC2 People's War Project, an online archive of wartime testimonials provided by members of the public.
