The Tank Museum

A Military Museum like no other

Immersive explorations

Working hand in hand with the Tank Museum, PLB helped the team achieve a successful HLF bid and £15.4 million redevelopment.  The redevelopment and reinterpretation of the museum and its designated collections expands its offerings greatly, providing an increased access to the collections for the visitors.

Showcasing 35 key vehicles from the museum’s collection, the stunning new 4,000 sqm building and houses 148 tanks, displayed in the Discovery Centre, outperforming all predicted visitor figures. PLB is exceptionally proud to have delivered this step-change for the Tank Museum.

“Not being into military history, war or tanks I was outnumbered by the males in my family so begrudgingly went along. So glad I did – it was an amazing day. Thought we’d be done after looking at tanks for an hour or so but 5 hours later we were still engrossed. Interactive galleries (the WW1 and Afghanistan mock-ups were superb), track rides, tank interiors plus information boards that are informative, engaging and sensitive – there was something for all of us. I felt educated and humbled by everything I learned here.”

“The museum is absolutely superb! Absolutely rammed with tanks and mechanised vehicles of all shapes and sizes, and nationalities. I was well impressed with the layout and organisation.”

“I would like to thank all the teams behind the front line for the thought, work and imagination you have put into developing the designs for the transformation of this Museum into something very exciting, which will give pleasure to many people.”
